A MILKSHAKE shop in Bury St Edmunds’ arc shopping centre has closed for business.

ShakeAway, which sold handmade milkshakes, finished trading at 2pm on Wednesday.

The chain, which has had a shop in the arc since 2009, had a sign in its window advertising free ice cream on its last day open.

Paul Haynes, manager of the arc, said the closure was part of a national plan by the franchise which is also closing stores in Islington and King’s Lynn.

He said: “The closure of the shop is not specific to the arc, the franchise as a whole is closing a couple of stores.

“We have a number of parties interested in looking to fill the site. The closure is part of the national picture for ShakeAway.

“People still see Bury as a very good trading site.”

Mr Haynes said 95 per cent of the shops in the arc were currently filled and would be looking to fill the remaining sites by the autumn.
