A manufacturing company near Bury St Edmunds which has grown to become the largest of its kind in the UK, is targeting growth in Europe.

Avelair which was founded 20 years ago, is exhibiting at The Hannover Messe in Germany next week.

The event is the World’s leading industrial technology showcase with more than 200,000 visitors a week.

During its 20 years, Avelair, which is based on the Rougham Industrial Estate, has doubled the size of its site, and grown to become the largest manufacturer of rotary screw air compressors in the UK.

As well as design and manufacturing, the firm also operates a quality service team covering East Anglia.

Its customers use its products for a range of industries from printing to automotive, and engineering through to pharmaceuticals.

David Wood, managing director at Avelair said: “I am very proud that the company my father started 20 years ago has become the largest UK manufacturer of rotary screw air compressors.

“We have ensured that the philosophy of manufacturing a high quality product alongside exceptional customer service has remained the same.”

He hopes the exhibition, where it will showcase its latest range of energy efficient variable speed compressors, will further develop its UK and European distribution. Avelair was founded by David’s parents Brian and Jean Wood in 1993 after 30 years working in the compressed air industry.

They retired in 2004.

Originally it was based in a 4,400sqft site on Moreton Hall but nearly doubled its facility when it moved to 8,600sqft at Rougham Industrial Estate in 2008. It employs 23 people.
