Glasswells founder dies aged 88

THE co-founder of home furnishings company Glasswells has died aged 88.

Leslie Glasswell set up the first shop in the family business in Brentgovel Street, Bury St Edmunds in 1946, with his father.

He later opened a series of stores and traded from three larger shops in Bury town centre.

With Vic Brega, Mr Glasswell conceived the Kingsbury Warehouse chain of furniture stores.

He leaves his wife Heather, three children and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church, in Bury, on Wednesday December 7 at 11am.
