From hammers to hovercrafts

AN aspiring businessman has had a drastic career change and launched an exciting new venture at Stonham Barns.

Lee Sylvester, from Langham, was in the building trade for 24 years before deciding it was time for a change.

He has now opened Flo-Ridaz hovercrafts, an innovative and thrilling new attraction for a fun family day out.

Lee, 41, said: “I decided I felt like a complete and utter change.

“Hovercrafts are totally different to anything you have ever driven before, it’s a bit like steering a boat without a rudder.”

He officially opened for business with one hovercraft two weeks ago after raising £30,000 to get Flo-Ridaz off the ground. He has two more hovercrafts to add to the company before the end of the month.

Flo-Ridaz has a large course - equivalent to the size of three football pitches - located at Stonham Barns, in Stonham Aspal.

Lee said that anyone can have a ride with prices starting from just £3.

“It’s just for amusement.

“I will take children for rides, and if you are over 17 then you can have a go on your own after some guidance,” said Lee.

The business is a unique idea in Suffolk, hoping to attract visitors from all over East Anglia. The closest hovercraft attraction is in Northamptonshire, and with a Newmarket company offering hovercraft days once a month, Lee certainly has the edge in Suffolk.

Flo-Ridaz hovercrafts is open seven days a week, from 11am to 7pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 7/8pm at weekends.

It is also open to group bookings.

“I have a booking for a birthday party and for a stag do coming up,” said Lee.
