Co-op to open in Bury St Edmunds with creation of around 20 new jobs

Around 20 new jobs are to be created in Bury St Edmunds with the opening of a new East of England Coop food store.

The new 3,000sqft store is set to open on the corner of Out Risbgygate and Albert Street, the site of a former car showroom, furniture showroom and recruitment office.

“We are delighted to be expanding our food store network further into West Suffolk by opening a food store in Bury,” said Roger Grosvenor, executive officer – retail for the East of England Co-operative Society.

“We are excited about the new opportunity of opening a store in Bury and will will also create new job opportunities for around 20 local people.”

The East of England Co-op is the largest independent retailer in East Anglia with more than 200 outlets in more than 70 towns and villages.

It operates food stores in in Elmswell, Haughley and Woolpit.

No opening date has yet be en given for the new Bury shop which will sell food, drink and groceries including produce sourced from local farmers.

The East of England Co-op also runs post offices, travel agents, pharmacies, opticians, petrol forecourts and funeral branches including a funeral branch in College Street, Bury.

It also runs an events and conference centre, a property division, and Easier Living Mobility Centres.
