MasterChef episode to feature Bury St Edmunds woman

A Bury St Edmunds woman has achieved her dream by competing on TV cooking competition MasterChef.

Hannah Gregory is set to appear on Wednesday's episode of the hit show and, although she cannot say how she did, the experience has encouraged her to pursue a career in cooking.

The 33-year-old is a freelance creative producer for music festivals but has a passion for cooking with a dream of appearing on MasterChef.

She said: "It's something I've wanted to do for ages but I'm a freelancer so work always got in the way.

"This time last year I was having a crisis of faith and went travelling for a month to work out what I wanted to do. I thought if I don't try to do something in the world of cooking, I'm never going to do it."

Hannah applied for the show in May last year and filmed towards the end of last year.

"I've watched the show for the last 10 years and I always day dreamed about getting on it.

"It was the most surreal experience, intense and the hardest thing I've ever done but probably the best thing I've ever done."

She is competing in the programme's third week of heats against five other contestants.

"It was amazingly positive," Hannah said. "It was so much more than just a cooking experience but I think for me it was about finding what I really wanted to do with my life and meeting really awesome people along the way."

"I would like to think some of the people I met in the kitchen will be friends for a really long time.

"It was nice to be in a situation where everyone was supporting each other.

"You become this little unit and everyone wants the best for each other even though everyone is competing against each other."

Hannah's episode airs on Wednesday, March 11 at 9pm on BBC One.
