A charity is actively seeking historic buildings within Bury St Edmunds which are in need of sympathetic repair and restoration.

Property agents/owners, local companies, statutory authorities, charities and the general public are being asked to inform Bury Town Trust of properties it could offer its expertise to.

Founded in 1979, the trust takes an interest in historic buildings in Bury which have fallen into disrepair and organises/funds specialist repairs to ensure they are maintained for the benefit of others.

Its projects - funded through its own capital or available grants - are mainly confined to saving properties that are uneconomic for the market to undertake or require specialist attention and sympathetic repair to ensure their historic character is conserved.

Vice chairman Jonathan Lloyd said: “The Trust is seeking its next project and will purchase distressed properties from owners or work in partnership with them in order to restore and preserve buildings of historic importance and bring them into a sustainable economic use, and usually an onward disposal.”
