Bury St Edmunds Town Council will continue to operate from Angel Hill while it investigates other possible office locations in the town.

Last month the council met to consider a number of options for its future including relocating to The Guildhall, West Suffolk House or another office, like Old School Hall in Well Street.

The council’s rent, which was reduced by 50 per cent after surrendering half its premises last year, currently costs £11,175 per annum and it is thought that moving could save money.

A report to full council said creating a new base at the Guildhall could also allow it to become involved in town initiatives and perhaps the future Guildhall museum experience.

Councillors opted to remain on Angel Hill until the result of devolution discussions were known.

Meanwhile, they will spend the next 12 to 24 months investigating the costs of moving options, and look at what could be done to promote and widen the council’s activities.
