People in Bury St Edmunds are set to welcome the world’s top women cyclists with a night of free entertainment in Charter Square on Tuesday June 16.

To warm up, between 2pm and 4pm, there will be opportunities to try different forms of pedal power in the arc shopping centre.

Visitors will be able to find out what their cycling performance measures on a Watt Bike, spin up a drink on a pedal powered smoothie bike, race Scalextric cars around a track using only pedal power and take part in a virtual race on roller cycles.

At 5.20pm soprano Laura Wright will open the team presentation event for the Aviva Women’s Tour in Charter Square, while from 5.30pm teams will appear on stage in the arc, creating a unique opportunity for crowds to get close to the international athletes.

Pupil representatives from 16 primary schools will present their ‘adopted’ teams with good luck banners, with celebratory artwork from the town’s middle and upper schools to provide a colourful backdrop to the event from a display outside The Apex.
