Recycling guru Karen Cannard has been voted into the top 10 of the 100 movers and shakers in the waste and resources movement.

Karen, who is well known for her blog The Rubbish Diet, shot to number six in The Resource Hot 100.

The power list, which is organised by Resource Media and voted on by the public, was announced at the annual Kit Strange Memorial Lecture at the Houses of Parliament.

Karen, of Bury, delivered this year’s lecture, which was entitled ‘Recycling in the Media: Changing the Headlines’.

She told an audience that engaging personal stories have the greatest power to inspire and encourage positive behaviour change.

The lecture was in memory of Kit Strange, a pioneer in the idea of waste as a resource.

On making the top 10, Karen said: “It was absolutely wonderful and totally unexpected. Thank you to everyone who voted to get me there.”
