A Bury St Edmunds caterer has been crowned Britain’s best pie maker at a prestigious awards bash.

The Pie Kitchen fought off a record number of entrants to be crowned the Supreme Champion at the annual British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray on Thursday.

Judged by more than 100 pie experts, the firm wowed the experts with its Chicken, Chantenay carrot and Bacon creation.

Carol Phillips, partner in the business, said she was ‘bowled over’ by the prize.

“This is the second year we have entered the British Pie Awards and last year we were awarded gold in our class, and now, supreme champion.

“Everything we produce is handmade, and we are genuinely passionate about our pies,” she said.
