Bury St Edmunds market is getting a new dining area

Organisers of Bury St Edmunds market are looking to capitalise on demand for street food by installing a dining area.

West Suffolk Council will supply three benches to seat a maximum of 18 ahead of the national Love Your Local Market fortnight, which runs May 17 to 31.

A spokesman for the authority said today (Monday, May 13): “The market plays an important part in the success of Bury St Edmunds. It is an attraction that continues to bring in people from far and wide.

“That is why it is important to celebrate our market, to encourage people to shop local and to recognise its social as well as economic importance through the work that we carry out with our partners.”

One of these partners is Bury’s own St Benedict’s School. The secondary is producing a free recipe booklet for meals that can be made and enjoyed on a budget.

The recipe book contains items that can all be bought at the market, which runs Wednesdays and Saturdays. Dishes can be tried for free at taste testing stands from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, May 25 - the day the recipe book is launched.

Love Your Local Market celebrations in Bury will also include a pop-up museum.
