A Bury St Edmunds man caught with illegal pornography including images of young children has avoided a prison term.

Mark Emms, 45, of Ridley Road, appeared on Wednesday at Ipswich Crown Court after pleading guilty to two offences of making indecent pictures of children and two of possessing extreme pornographic images.

Simon Gladwell, prosecuting, said indecent images of children as young as four had been downloaded to Emms’ computer. Police found 63 photographs and nine movies together with 36 disks containing extreme pornography involving beastiality.

Catherine Bradshaw, in mitigation, said Emms accepted that he needed help.

He received a three year supervision order and told to participate in an Internet Sex Offenders Treatment Programme.

Emms was banned from purchasing, owning or using for the next five years any computer or other device capable of connecting to the internet without having informed the police or probation service.

He was told to pay £535 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
