A Bury St Edmunds choir is preparing to welcome singers from Kiev on their first ever visit to the UK.

The Melody Girls of Ukraine are being hosted next weekend by members of the St Edmundsbury Male Voice Choir (SEMVC) who they will be performing with in Bury on Saturday (September 26).

The visiting choir, whose members are all students at Kiev University, are said to perform classic western pop songs with a distinctive eastern European flavour.

Ian Robertson, a member of the SEMVC, said: “It’s a unique opportunity to entertain these young ladies and we’re very much looking forward to it.”

The concert will take place at St Mary’s Church, Bury, from 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced at £8 each, are available from Balaams Music in Risbygate Street, Churchgate Books in Hatter Street or on the door of St Mary’s Church.
