Two friends, fed up with the soaring cost of weddings, have started a business selling high-quality bridal gowns at bargain prices.

Karen Marriott and Jill Cockman, both psychology lecturers at West Suffolk College, launched their bridal boutique – Second Heaven – in September last year.

They stock up to 100 wedding dresses consisting of a mixture of pre-loved, ex-sample and brand new, with many by well-known designers including Maggie Sottero, Mori Lee, Sophia Tolli and Alfred Angelo.

They range in size from 8-22 and cost from £150-£575.

Karen, a mother-of-three who is all too familiar with the stress associated with finding ‘the perfect dress’, said helping others prepare for their big day ‘can be very rewarding’.

“Sometimes people get a tear in their eye and you just know they’ve found their dress – that’s lovely to be part of,” said Jill, a mother-of-four.

The pair pride themselves on offering a personal service in a relaxed, welcoming environment that allows brides-to-be to enjoy trying on dresses without any pressure or fear of a ‘hard-sell’.

Flower girl dresses, mother-of-the-bride outfits and bridal accessories are also available, while for newlyweds wanting to recoup further costs, dresses can also be sold to Second Heaven.
