Trafalgar Day will be marked on Sunday with a parade by TS St Edmund Mayor’s Own Sea Cadets on Angel Hill from 11am.
St Edmundsbury Mayor Robert Everitt will inspect the cadets who then march to the arc before returning to St Edmundsbury Cathedral for a service at noon, followed by a march past on Angel Hill.
Both car parks on Angel Hill will be closed from 6pm on Saturday night until 1.30pm on Sunday to allow the event to take place.
The Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805 saw Norfolk-born Admiral Lord Nelson’s fleet beat the combined French and Spanish fleets off Cape Trafalgar in Spain. Nelson was fatally shot during the action. It was a decisive victory, establishing Britain’s naval superiority over Napoleonic forces.
