The show didn’t go on at the Theatre Royal last Friday after Georgian brickwork above the stage was found to be unsafe.

Bury St Edmunds’ 195-year-old theatre had to cancel a performance of Sing-a-Long Sound of Music was cancelled but work on Saturday morning to make the area safe meant that evening’s Showstopper! performance did go on.

The theatre’s own production of Tim Firth’s Sign of the Times opens tonight.

A theatre spokeswoman: “The theatre is continuing as normal and the area of concern has now been made safe. In due course work will be undertaken to a long-term solution.”
