Bury Quakers help refugees in France and Greece


Bury St Edmunds Quakers are running fundraising events in aid of refugees, particularly the work of Save The Children with refugees on the Greek islands and that of L’Auberge des Migrants in the Calais refugee camp.

They have raised more than £600 with two lunches and their dancing group added £320. Lunches are planned for February 7 and March 6.

A group is meeting to knit warm hats and the Quakers’ Meeting House is a collecting point for donations for the Calais refugees.

They need blankets, sleeping bags, large tents, tarpaulins, camping mats, firewood, fire extinguishers, wind up or solar torches and lanterns, men’s waterproof walking boots, women’s boots/shoes with flat heels,waterproof winter coats, socks, underwear, hats, gloves,scarves and men’s trousers.
