Bury St Edmunds is bucking the national trend in terms of the number of shoppers in the town centre.
A footfall camera, installed in Abbeygate Street by Bid4Bury, recorded a 7.9 per cent increase last month.
This compares to an increase of 7.6 per cent in UK regional cities, 7.5 in the East and 6.5 in UK towns and cities.
It follows positive figures for Bury in January, which saw a 13.9 per cent fall in shoppers compared to 26.4 in UK towns and cities and 27in the East.
Mark Cordell, chief executive of Bid, said the footfall proves Bury’s draw with its ‘mixture of independent and national brands plus high quality food and drink establishments’. The camera was provided by Springboard, a company which works with the Association of Town and City Management, and fitted in mid November.
