STANTON man Shaun Mallet is awaiting an operation after suffering serious injuries in an attack in Peru.
His brother Michael has spent the last week in Lima by his bedside and was today due to fly home.
His family say they have been receiving support from friends and are considering fund-raising to help cover the cost of his treatment as the 41-year-old had travelled without insurance.
Sister-in-law Deborah said: “Shaun will be on his own for a while until we know he can fly home, then hopefully a member of the family can go to Peru and bring him back.”
Shaun suffered a punctured lung and serious injuries to his neck, arms and legs after being mugged and doctors have been waiting for his condition to stabilise before they can operate.
The family have been unhappy about the Foreign Office’s handling of the matter.
“They are still not coming forward to help us out,” said Deborah.
