Breckland Council offers groups part of £10,000 lottery grant pot
To celebrate Volunteers' Week this week, community groups and good causes across Breckland are being offered the chance to access grants from a special £10,000 pot, courtesy of Breckland Council's Our Breckland Lottery Community Fund.
Organisations which are signed up to the community lottery, organised by the council, will be eligible to access grants of £250, £500 or £1,000, depending on the number of new Our Breckland Lottery supporters they can recruit over the next few months.
Since its launch in March 2018, the Our Breckland Lottery has raised just under £40,000 for charities and community groups, thanks to tickets purchased by the public.
Half of every £1 ticket goes directly to the player's nominated good cause, 20p goes to the lottery prize fund, and 20p goes towards running costs.
The remaining 10p is put into a general grants fund, which Breckland Council is now redistributing to good causes through this £10k grant initiative.
There are currently 67 community groups, sports clubs, and charities signed up to the lottery, meaning they can be selected by players as beneficiaries of their ticket sales.
There is no cost to good causes to take part in the lottery and the weekly jackpot for players is £25,000.
Cllr Mark Robinson, Executive Member for Community, Leisure and Culture at Breckland Council, said: "The Our Breckland Lottery is a fantastic way for people to support a charity or their local sports team while being in with a chance to win up to £25,000.
"The money raised through the lottery in its inaugural year has already made such a big difference to local groups and we're delighted to offer this extra boost to good causes, who often rely heavily on the support of volunteers."
