Brave souls hot foot it to special fund-raising event

THE Stroke Association raised more than £7,000 – with a sponsored fire walk.

In freezing temperatures, 46 volunteers braved the coals at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club last week to raise money for the Bury-based charity.

George Burroughs, regional fund-raising manager for the East of England, said: “It was particularly cold out there especially for those who had to stand on the freezing ground before doing the firewalk.

“One or two of them even said that the embers were preferable to the freezing ground.

“The money will go to support a variety of services including family support work and speech therapy. I would like to give a massive thank you to everyone involved.”

On March 11, the Stroke Association is holding a 5K Resolution Run at Nowton Park, in Bury.

The run has been set up to encourage people to take regular exercise and to follow a healthier lifestyle.
