Brandon on-call firefighters 'at home' in Omar Group training exercise for Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service




Five on-call firefighters did not have far to go when they were called out to an incident at the Omar Group HQ and production plant in Brandon.

Les Field, Lloyd Kent, Jason Spooner, Craig Tyson and George Roberts were on the spot for an emergency exercise for Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service.

The training exercise was attended by crews from Brandon, Mildenhall and Newmarket who were tasked to deal with the ‘incident’ involving simulated casualties at a large and complicated commercial premises.

The fire station at Brandon is made up of 11 on-call firefighters and the team there are called out on average of 30 times a month.

Graeme Craig, Omar chief executive, said: “The work the team do is critical in being able to provide life-saving services to the local community. We’re also very proud to be an employer of on-call crew members. It’s fantastic to be able to give back to the community by releasing them when needed.”

Henry Griffin, deputy district commander for Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Omar for their continued support to the service and allowing the site to be used for the exercise.

“The exercise gave us the opportunity to test our incident command, operational procedures and breathing apparatus procedures.”
