Boxted man accused of fraud offences appears in court

A Boxted man accused of frauds totalling nearly £700,000 has appeared at Ipswich Crown Court.

Alan Smith, 57, was arrested in Lancashire on April 29 and later brought to Suffolk where he was interviewed by detectives.

Yesterday, Smith, of Glemsford Road, Boxted, appeared for a preliminary hearing before Judge Peter Jacobs.

Judge Jacobs told Smith he would continue to be remanded in custody until July 17 when he will be brought back to court for a plea and case management hearing.

Smith is charged with 42 offences of fraud by false representation, totalling more than £690,000.

It is alleged the offences involved 20 victims and were committed over a period of almost five years.
