Boost for village’s project for the fallen

A village project in Cockfield to create a lasting memorial to those who gave their lives in World War One has been given a £5,000 Heritage Lottery Fund donation.

This will enable refurbishment to the Memorial Cross, create a plaque in the church listing the names of those who died and support a series of events involving local schoolchildren who will learn about their heritage.

Information about those who died will be stored on the village website and be freely available to all.

Gillian Hodge, who has been spearheading the project, said: “This will enable us to erect a permanent memorial in our church to commemorate those who lost their lives.”
