A trailblazing independent spirit and offering the highest standard of customer care will be recognised in the Bury Free Press Business Awards.

The Independent Retailer accolade is for those who show true innovation, commitment to the community and can make their store different to the competition.

It is sponsored by the Suffolk Agricultural Association, which organises the Suffolk Show at Trinity Park, in Ipswich and works to raise awareness of food, farming, the countryside and its importance to the Suffolk economy and character.

Show director Bill Baker said: “Independent retail is a vital part of the shopping experience and plays a key role in the overall retail mix and attracting people to the town.

“Independent retailers are entrepreneurs who play an important part in the economy be they selling our wonderful local food and drink, clothing or lifestyle goods, they are all crucial to the character of the town.

“We know from our experience of organising the annual Suffolk Show just how important retail is and we are always keen to encourage the best of Suffolk’s independent retailers to come and exhibit and do business with us.

“A good retail mix is a hugely important part of what goes into making the county show unique and appealing.

“Likewise, a strong independent retail sector is a very important part of what makes Bury a very attractive destination. The Suffolk Show is a ‘whole’ county celebration and we are delighted to be supporting this initiative in the west of our wonderful county.”

Meanwhile, the Customer Care award recognises the person who can demonstrate their commitment to providing the very highest level of customer service and in doing so can be described as ‘truly customer focused’.

It is sponsored by the Bury Free Press.

Editor Paul Richardson said: “This award will reflect the importance placed on a person who offers a premium service within their business and someone with a positive attitude who believes in making the shopping experience enjoyable for their customers.

“The Bury Free Press has always strived to be at the heart of the community and provide the highest level of service possible to our readers.

“That is why we want to give individuals who share this ethos the opportunity to shine.”
