FORTY fixed penalty notices were issued to people not wearing their seatbelt following a week-long clampdown last week.
Suffolk Police’s roads policing unit conducted checks on motorists and their passengers throughout the county in support of the Europe-wide TISPOL seatbelt enforcement campaign.
During the clampdown, 40 notices were issued – equating to 5.7 per day.
Thirty eight were given for adults not wearing a seatbelt and two for a child with the recipients incurring a minimum of an instant £60 fine. In a similar campaign in September, police issued 66 notices. Sgt Paul Ward of the Casualty Reduction Team said: “We would still remind people of the importance of wearing a seatbelt.”
