Bells ring out for start of Olympics

A GROUP of family and friends joined people up and down the country to ring bells as loudly and quickly as they could for three minutes to celebrate the start of London 2012.

The ringing of bells across Britain at 8.12 this morning was the brain child of Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed.

Judy Vincent of Northgate Street, Bury St Edmunds invited friends and family to ring a variety of bells from small Tibetan bells, an enormous old school bell and even a bike bell to mark the occasion.

Two of Judy’s grandchildren also joined in the fun over Skype and speakerphone.

Judy said: “We were completely unmusical we just rung away as loud as we could for three minutes. It was brilliant we had a lovely time.”
