Beck Row biker had consumed alcohol

A motorcyclist who collided with a car after crossing onto the wrong side of the road had been drinking, an inquest heard.

Raymond Day, from Falcon Way, Beck Row, crashed his green and white Kawaski motorbike into a black Vauxhall Astra on the A1101 Bury Road at 2pm on September 12.

An inquest into the death of the 54-year-old was told on Monday that Mr Day was negotiating a left hand bend when he crossed the white line in the middle of the road.

In his report, read by Assistant Coroner Dr Daniel Sharpstone, Pc Jason Lambourne said Mr Day had consumed alcohol, but it was not possible to say if he was over the legal limit. He added it was likely Mr Day was travelling too fast for the 30mph limit and ran wide on the bend.
