Bardwell fire leaves one home damaged

Residents were evacuated after a fire in Bardwell overnight which left one house damaged.

Crews from Ixworth and Bury St Edmunds were called to a fire outside two homes in Low Street shortly before 12.30am.

Firefighters discovered that the fire was coming from a gas main and requested the attendance of National Grid engineers.

They used a hose reel to quell the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the adjacent houses, both of which were evacuated, but only extinguished it after gas engineers had isolated the supply,

The incident was brought under control by 2.50am, leaving one home damaged.
