Barber Adie Doe, who gave kidney to sister, to run Cambridge Half

A Bury St Edmunds barber who donated a kidney for his sister is now running the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise money for Kidney Research UK.

Adie Doe, 49, who runs Adie's Barber Shop in St Andrew's Street North, gave his kidney last year in a pool system that saw his sister Lynn Charles receive an organ from another donor. Adie said he has found recovery 'more difficult' than expected but wanted a target to aim for.

He wrote on his Just Giving fundraising page: "I watched my two friends last year doing the Cambridge Half Marathon and they inspired me (and twisted my arm!) into doing this."

The 13.1mile run on Sunday, March 8, is the first half marathon he has entered. And Cambridge is an appropriate setting, as the kidney procedure was completed in Addenbrooke's Hospital. To sponsor visit www.justgiving.com and search 'A Doe'.
