Aspiring student nurses will have the chance to gain vital experience on West Suffolk Hospital’s wards through a national pilot.

The scheme will see 50 would-be nurses across Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridge gain up to a year’s experience as a nursing assistant before starting their undergraduate nursing education.

Ten of them will work at the Bury St Edmunds hospital and the posts are open to anyone wishing to apply to university to train as a nurse. The pilot is a response to the Francis Report, which highlighted the need for prospective student nurses to have care experience.
