Police were called to reports that a man wearing a mask and brandishing a hammer had been seen at the back of a shop on a Bury St Edmunds estate accompanied by a woman.
They attended the incident at about 5.40pm on Sunday, August 16 at St Olaves Precinct, on the Howard estate and, following a search, arrested a man and a woman, both aged 39 and from the Bury area.
They were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and going equipped for stealing.
A balaclava, hammer and knife were found nearby and seized.
The suspects were taken to Bury Police Investigation Centre for questioning where they have been bailed to return on Sunday, September 20 pending further enquiries.
