The team behind a project to renovate Hessett’s war memorial is trying to trace relatives of the 14 men named on it.

Friends of Hessett Church want to compile a book about the men, hopefully with pictures.

Jill Carter said: “Some were born in Hessett or neighbouring villages such as Tostock, Rougham and Beyton, or later worked locally and married Hessett girls.”

They are: William Hubbard, Royal Navy, son of Kate Hubbard; Herbert Green, Suffolk Regt, son of Jacob Green; George Stiff, unit unknown, died at Gallipoli, son of George Stiff; Stanley Gladwell, Suffolk Regt, son of Laura Gladwell; John Whiting Suffolk Regt, son of Emily Whiting of Drinkstone; Ernest Bullett, Suffolk Regt. son of George Bullett; Ernest Catchpole, Suffolk Regt, son of George Catchpole; Alfred Benningfield, Army Service Corps, married Edith May Bullett; William Borley Northamptonshire Regt; Bertie Bullett, Hertfordshire Regt, possibly son of Mrs E Green of Hessett; Harry Bullett, Royal Sussex Regt, grandson of Charles Bullett; Bertram Cocksedge; Norfolk Regt, son of Robert Cocksedge; Walter Green; Suffolk Regt; Charles Prentice, Household Cavalry, son of Harry Prentice of Great Barton.
