A LUCKY girl has lived out a dream shared by many of her peers by ruling her school for a day.
Nine-year-old Annie Smith was given ‘the best present in the world’ after her parents bid for the unusual prize in an auction at the Moreton Hall Prep School’s Golden Jubilee Ball last month.
The night’s proceeds raised a total of £12,000, with the ‘headmaster for the day’ lot raking in an impressive £380.
Of her day in the hot seat, Annie said: “On a scale of 1-10, it’s scored 100. After all these years in the school being a normal pupil, to get to choose all the decisions for one day has been really fun.”
As well as making minor adjustments, such as forcing staff members to sing the first verse of an assembly hymn, extending break by 10 minutes and changing the lunch menu to include brownies, Annie was given access to the staff room and house points to distribute among her fellow pupils.
But the best part of her day involved going up to the school’s roof, something she let her entire class do too. Simon Head, who resumed his duties as headteacher this week, said: “Annie didn’t make up too many new rules and she’s let me have my job back – I’ll try and keep up her good work.”
