Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport begins with event featuring London 2012 Olympic cyclist Jess Varnish
The ten day Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport will help make Suffolk England’s ‘most active county,’ organisers have said.
A running festival, boasting a public 10km, half and full marathon, on Sunday, October 27, will be the climax of the festival, which begins today.
There is also yoga and sailing seminars, while it all begins with a lunch hosted by Olympic cyclist Jess Varnish.
“The Festival of Sport offers something for all abilities,” said Mark Cordell, chief executive of the organising business improvement district.
“It doesn’t matter whether you have never even run for a bus but want to start exercising, or you’re keen to take on a marathon – we can help.”
Five events to look out for:
Friday, October 18 at 1pm.
Varnish, who was one of GB’s leading track cyclists between 2012 and 2017 and famously partnered Victoria Pendleton in the Team Sprint, will be the star guest at a sporting lunch at The Athenaeum on Friday 18th October.
Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22.
For children aged five to 15. Two days filled with football drills, technical skills, matches, shooting challenges of plenty of prizes to be won.
Tuesday, October 22, from 5.45pm
Emily’s Mixed Ability Vinyasa class, covers various postures and flows while integrating basic breathing and meditation techniques to improve energy and release any build-up of tension you may have accumulated.
Friday, October 25. 10am and 10.45am.
Two introductory pilates sessions will be held at Bury Physio.
Sunday, October 27 - from 8.30am
Offering a10k, half marathon, full marathon and family fun run routes from Skyliner Sports Centre in Bury St Edmunds.
The improvement district is highlighting fixtures featuring Bury teams which are taking place and promoting them online and through publicity.
