A memorial assembly has been held for Jackie Smith, former chairman of governors at Abbots Green School, Moreton Hall.

Jackie, 48, died in December after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

She had been a governor at the schools since it opened in 2005 and was chairman since 2010.

The whole school assembly was attended by Jackie’s family, school governors and staff and the piano she had purchased for the school was played for the first time as Key Stage 2 children sang Give Us Hope. A Jackie Smith Music Achievement award is also part of her legacy and will be presented in July.

Miranda McCoy from St Nicholas Hospice Care received a cheque for £1,745 for its Nicky’s Way programme. A further £178 was raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
