THE Abbey Gardens and Nowton Park have both been awarded the Green Flag status it was announced today.

Three of St Edmundsbury Borough Council parks took the award which recognises well managed and high quallity green spaces. As well as the Bury St Edmunds parks East Town Park in Haverhill also won recognition.

All three parks have previously won green flags, but have to re-apply every year to prove that their standards are being continuously improved.

Councillor Sara Mildmay-White, cabinet member responsible for culture and sport, said:“I am delighted that these green flags have been awarded. The council recognises the value of open spaces and we continue to invest in them. They are free at point of use and attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The awards confirm our commitment to the well-being of the borough.”
