A festive get-together is being planned to help bring lonely people together this Christmas.

Anyone living in Wetherden, Elmswell, Haughley or Stowupland, who is expecting to spend the holidays without their loved ones, is invited to enjoy a meal at The Maypole, in Stowmarket Road, Wetherden, at 2pm on December 29.

The meals for ‘a mother Christmas party’ are being funded by villagers who are asked to buy a meal for £2.50 at Mace Stores, in Station Road, Elmswell, and write their name on it. The meals will be collected from the shop.

Recipients can expect a turkey dinner, Christmas pudding, mince pies and cake, and there will be Christmas carols.

“Christmas is the loneliest time of the year if you’re not with family and friends,” said organiser Barbara Bonner.

Anyone buying a meal and those wanting to receive one should call 01359 244118.
