Bury St Edmunds tour guides hosted like-minded folk from St Albans, Colchester, Norwich, King’s Lynn and Ipswich last Saturday.

Brian Coley, a Bury guide since 1998, welcomed around 40 visitors to the resurrected East Anglian Spring Conference of Tour Guides, including the president of the British Guild of Tourist Guides.

The event, at the Unitarian Meeting House, featured West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village speaker Lance Alexander, reports from the various associations, general networking, lunch at St Edmundsbury Cathedral and two town tours, the Medieval Grid Walk and the Good, Bad & Unlucky Walk which is being launched at the Bury Festival next month.

“It’s a general meeting of minds,” said Mr Coley, who is hopeful one of the other groups will ‘take up the baton’ and host the conference in two years’ time.
