A man has been ordered to pay more than £2,500 in compensation after smashing up his ex-girlfriend’s home.

John Frater, 27, of Bacton Road, Felixtowe, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and obstructing a Pc when he appeared at Bury St Edmunds’ Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Prosecuting, David Bryant said police were called an address in Pakenham on May 31 over concerns to Frater’s wellbeing.

He said: “The flat had been trashed with various items of furniture broken.”

In mitigation, Claire Lockwood said Frater had that day found out his mother had breast cancer and that his girlfriend did not want to be in a relationship any more.

He was fined £250 and ordered to pay £2,559 compensation, costs of £85 and £25 victim surcharge.
