PETER Mayhew is going to great heights for charity.
Peter, an 18-year-old student from Old Bury Road, Stanton, is raising £2,500 for a trek to Everest base camp in Tibet for Childreach.
As well as raising money for the charity’s work supporting health, education and child protection in poor countries, he will also be giving hands-on help to local schools and doctors during his three weeks there.
Peter, who is studying economics at Sheffield, said: “It’s quite a climb: we have to do it in stages because of the oxygen levels.”
Base camp is at 17,590ft and Peter’s only walking experience has been doing Hadrian’s Wall and Peddars Way three years ago.
