Potential plans to build hundreds of new homes in Needham Market have prompted an MP to call for a public meeting.

David Ruffley MP, whose Bury St Edmunds Constituency includes Needham Market, has written to Mid Suffolk Council calling for a meeting in January.

In the letter, Mr Ruffley asks for clarification on estimates that up to 700 homes could be built.

Two doorstop conmen ended up £6 down after attempting to steal from an 85-year-old Bury St Edmunds Man.

Even so, police have again urged householders to be on their guard after the incident in Mill Road on Tuesday.

The two youths called on the man saying he had won £6 in a sweepstake. They gave him a £10 note and he gave then £4.

During the transaction, one of the youths searched the rooms in the man’s house but, fortunately, nothing was stolen.

It’s a ‘Happy Christmas’ handshake for this old boy.

He’s Mr Charles Devereux and he has just collected his 2lb of sugar and 1/4lb tea — the annual free gift which Mr J. S. H. Glasswell, the well known Bury St Edmunds businessman makes every year to hundreds of old folk. Mr Devereux was first in the queue. He meant to be — he was two hours early.
