Details: fleecejazz.org.uk) Modern jazz classics with danceable rhythms led by Birmingham-based trumpeter Bryan Corbett (trumpet/flugel) with Chris Dodd (bass), Sean Hargreaves (piano/keyboard) and Mark Fletcher (drums).
Sunday, February 9 – OSIAN ROBERTS QUARTET: (Fludyer Arms, Felixstowe, 7.30pm, free) Formidable hard-bop tenor saxophonist is joined by guitarist Simon Hurley and the Fludyer regulars Rob Palmer (bass) and Russ Morgan (drums). SPIRIT OF DJANGO: (The Fox, Bury, 7.15pm, free) Swinging manouche-style sounds inspired by the great gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, with Louis Thorne (guitar), Ben Pringle (guitar/keyboard) and Paul Reynolds (bass). ANDY BOWIE QUARTET: (Tram Shed, Cambridge, 8.30pm, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor leads a quartet presenting a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire.
Monday, February 10 – JAZZ JAM: (The Windmill, Knox Road, Norwich, 8.30pm, free. Details: jazzjam.org.uk) Established and friendly jam session led by bassist Brendan Youngs and guitarist Lee Vasey. All musicians welcome for sitting in.
Tuesday, February 11 – NORWICH SCHOOL JAZZ BANDS: (The Cottage, Thorpe St Andrew, doors 7pm, music 8pm, £5. Details: norwichjazzclub.co.uk) Led by Richard Allain and David Fitzgerald, an evening of the Norwich School’s emerging young jazz musicians.
Wednesday, February 12 – SIMON NELSON’S DIXIEMIX: (Lakeside, Lyng, 8pm, £10. Details: lakeside-jazz.com) Dereham Jazz Society return from their Christmas break to present the sparkling Norfolk trad band Dixiemix, who launch their new CD. Featuring Simon Nelson (cornet/vocals), Pete Oxborough (reeds), Chris Wigley (trombone), Kevin West (guitar), John Benson (bass) and Tony Wilkins (drums).
Thursday, February 13 – SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND: (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free. Friday, February 14 – ED JONES QUARTET: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Details: fleecejazz.org.uk) Passionate and inventive tenor saxophonist brings his own brand of thoughtful hard bop to Fleece Jazz in the estimable company of Tom Cawley (piano), Riaan Vosloo (bass) and Tim Giles (drums).
