The recently published National Gardens Scheme (NGS) yellow book for 2013 is packed with inspirational gardens.

And, with 23 new gardens opening this year, Suffolk is going from strength to strength.

Booklets detailing the new gardens, as well as old favourites like Wyken Hall and Woodwards, in Coddenham, are widely available across the county.

There is no need to be nervous of ‘by appointment’ gardens – the owners are extra keen to show visitors around.

Last year, the NGS gave £13.5 million to charities and was the biggest donor to MacMillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Help the Hospices.

Visiting an NGS garden and buying home-grown plants while enjoying a slice of home-made cake and a cup of tea is a great way to support these and other NGS charities.
