10 years ago: Bury's Asda store sets up bean baths for charity

Staff at Asda, in Bury St Edmunds, were raising money for charity last weekend by bathing in baked beans.

Asda events coordinator Chris Holmes spent a full 10 hours sat in the beans, while colleagues and customers added, cream, brown sauce, mayonnaise, flour, co-co pops and soup to the mix.

The two-day event raised a total of £683.64 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Chris said: “It took me two hours each day to open 110 cans of beans to prepare. We are proud to be continuing our association with St Nicholas Hospice Care and have started talks on how we can help them again with their Girl’s Night Out event.”
