It will have best power-to-weight ratio in its class

British car maker TVR is to unveil a new model at this year’s Goodwood Revival. The headline is that this car will have the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class. The figure of 400bhp per tonne will exceed that of all manner of exotics including the Aston Martin Vantage GT8, the Jaguar F-Type SVR coupe and even the Porsche 911 Turbo S. That’s quite a head count.

To achieve that the model will have a 5.0-litre V8 which will have been worked on by Cosworth. A final weight of only 1,200kg will have been achieved through small dimensions – the car will be nearly 20cm shorter than a 911 and 43mm lower than an F-Type – as well as the use of lightweight materials and metals.

However, TVR states that the car will be spacious and comfortable enough for daily use. That assumes that you want to use a car for daily transport that will be able to hit 200mph, passing 60mph on the way in under four seconds.

The swooping lines of the front-engined two-seater were penned by Gordon Murray, and include exhaust pipes exiting behind the front wheels. The final production lines are expected to be very much in the TVR tradition.

“We have been ambitious and rigorous in establishing performance benchmarks for our new car,” said John Chasey at TVR Manufacturing.

“Our intentions for power-to-weight, size, practicality and quality standards were set high from the very start. We know that the new TVR must be able to compete at the very highest levels, and I’m delighted to say that the car has met or exceeded all of our own very exacting requirements hands down.”

Prices have yet to be confirmed but even the top Launch Edition will be under £90,000. It is expected that production will begin during 2018, with delivery to customers who have already placed orders starting next year.
