THE Theatre Royal welcomed its new executive director at a press conference on Wednesday.
Simon Daykin, who started in the role on Monday, joined artistic director Colin Blumenau, and chairman of the theatre board Brian Stewart to discuss the future of the Bury St Edmunds theatre.
After securing vital funding from the Arts Council of £127,000 a year from April 2012 to 2015, the men behind the theatre are now looking at further financial options that are available to the historic venue
Mr Daykin said: “We are going through change and the economics are very challenging, but this place is far too important and we will continue to absolutely take those challenges very seriously.”
The Georgian theatre was recognised as a national portfolio organisation and Colin Blumenau is confident that they will find more funding from other sources.
He said: “There are opportunities out there for an organisation like this and we need to find them.”
The theatre is unsure whether it will receive important funding from Suffolk County Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council, but remains positive about funding from new business ventures and from local support and donations.
