THE timeless tale of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet has been given a modern day Suffolk twist by pupils in Stowmarket.

Year 7 and 8 children at Stowmarket Middle School, in Walnut Tree Walk, will kick off their interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic on Wednesday.

The performers have been rehearsing since September with a script by Colchester primary school teacher Peter Mabbit based on the football rivalry between Norwich and Ipswich.

Claire Shepherd, head of Key Stage Three English, said: “It’s a really nice and funny play and it has a happy ending.”

The play starts at 7pm and also runs on February 10 and 11. Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children, available in advance from the school on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
