A classic musical showcasing the spirit of the swingin’ 60s is coming to Ipswich next month.

Heartwarming musical Sweet Charity is being performed at the New Wolsey Theatre from September 3 to 26.

The theatre already has a number of actor-musician credits behind it, including Our House, Guys and Dolls and 20th Century Boy.

The show follows Charity Valentine, a girl determined to find love who always tries to look on the bright side of life, despite contending with a seemingly endless run of bad dates.

Among the cast is Royal Academy of Music graduate Katie Birchill, who will be in the lead role of Charity Valentine.

The cast will also include New Wolsey Theatre actor-musician favourites James Haggie as Oscar Lindquist, Dan de Cruz as Danny Brubeck and Sophie Byrne as Helene.

The actor-musician production will be directed by Peter Rowe, the theatre’s artistic director, with a score by musical director Greg Palmer.
